What actually works where
HEIC / HEIF Decodes only in browsers with an OS-level HEIC codec — in practice, Safari on macOS/iOS. It won't open in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge on any platform; that's a browser/OS limitation, not this tool.
WEBP / AVIF out Encoding to WebP or AVIF only appears above if your current browser actually supports it — this tool checks for real support before offering it rather than guessing.
GIF out GIF is inherently a 256-colour format, so photographic images will show visible banding — it's a great fit for icons, logos, and simple graphics.
ICO out Capped at 256×256px, matching the standard Windows/favicon icon format.
TIFF No browser can decode TIFF in an <img> tag, so it isn't supported as an input here.
